Neural Therapy

Musculoskeletal Complaints

The most common health problems for which Huneke’s neural therapy can be applied with a high likelihood of success involve the human musculoskeletal system and the fields of orthopedics and trauma surgery.

These include acute and chronic pain conditions and/or restricted mobility in parts of the musculoskeletal system — particularly following injuries and surgeries.

Patients with such complaints are often severely limited in their daily activities and experience significant distress. These conditions very often become chronic, leading to lasting limitations in their ability to participate in daily life.

A major advantage for patients undergoing neural therapy is the avoidance of unnecessary or, in some cases, harmful surgeries. Whether neural therapy can be used as an alternative treatment depends largely on the experience and expertise of the neural therapist. Furthermore, successful neural therapy often leads to reductions in medication use, including the side effects sometimes associated with these medications.

Due to today’s highly precise imaging techniques (e.g., MRI), structural abnormalities are often equated with the cause of a patient’s symptoms without further critical evaluation. This can ultimately lead to misdiagnoses and, consequently, to treatment recommendations — including surgical procedures — that do not help the patient and, in the worst case, trigger additional symptoms.

Any considerations regarding a neural therapeutic approach to the musculoskeletal system should always take the entire myofascial system into account. This refers to the entirety of all muscles and fasciae, along with the muscle function chains that run throughout the body. Based on a precise understanding of these systems, the neural therapy treatment of active muscle trigger points and myofascial trigger points plays a decisive role. This approach also integrates all findings from the facial, head, and temporomandibular joint regions (see also “Headache Syndromes”), such as craniomandibular dysfunction.

For the vast majority of musculoskeletal conditions, Huneke’s neural therapy can be extremely helpful as a conservative treatment method. According to scientific studies, consistent neural therapy treatment — usually involving several sessions, including interference field therapies (see “Huneke’s Neural Therapy”) — can lead to significant improvement or even a cure in up to 80% of all patients.
